Exciting News Friday BIKRAM YOGA!

Bikram Yoga

This week I tried something new, Bikram Yoga. I must say I enjoyed the quiet slow breathing of the yoga. I didn't really enjoy the postures though(probably because i can't do them all yet). And the 105degree room wasn't my favorite thing about although the sweating has majorly helped my skin. I have always had extremely dry skin. I have only been to 3 classes and my skin is moisturized and supple. It is amazing. I know I won't CURRENTLY be joining the yoga studio because even with my student discount it is still almost $80 a month to join, I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. (lol i dont know who can). I have 7 more classes that I can take. I am not sure if I am going to finish them. I feel i get more out of the quietness of the room and the breathing slowly than anything else. I hope I will make time to find quiet in my life on a daily basis with out the bikram yoga. My gym does offer yoga classes so that is an option if I want to continue the practice. Anyway I am very happy I tried bikram yoga. Maybe some day I will join the Bikram Yoga studio here in san antonio texas, maybe when i have a job and about 50lbs from now lol. We will see. To be quite honest I really love the hot yoga and I wish I could join right now. However budget wise it just isn't feasible. I know that the postures are difficult right now because I am not very flexible and with time it will get better. I met some awesome people, Dawn, Vandi, Laura and Tara are just a few of the awesome people. EVERYONE is very nice at the yoga studio and they do all have a focused zen type of air about them. If you are wanting to try something new or shake up your routine I totally recommend trying Bikram yoga. Make sure you hydrate the day before and the day of your first class and after. It is an amazing experience. I have never felt so focused or relaxed as I have with Bikram yoga. oh yeah be prepared to SWEAT even if you don't think you will sweat YOU WILL.
Super excited today because I went to Old  Navy and bought a new pair of jeans. A size 18. The last time I bought a pair of jeans there I needed the size 20. And I actually think I could have bought the size 16 but for comfort and possible shrinking I went with the 18. And I bought some more t-shirts in a size Large instead of xl or xxl YAY ME! so anyway that is all for now.

WWW Week 4

Life's Journey with a Smile

IMG-20110122-00486.jpg
Beautiful day in the Hill Country.

  1. What have you done this past week to help you achieve your goals? I went to my dads house this weekend for some rest and relaxation. I have been eating more veggies and fruit and keeping up with my water drinking.
  2. How are you feeling about the goals you set for yourself? Overwhelmed? Too easy? Just right? A little overwhelmed. The spending fast is super hard for me to stay on track. And finding a job has not got any easier since I started back to school last week.
  3. Do you prefer to exercise inside or outside? Um inside although I don't really know since I have never exercised outside. This spring/summer we shall see.
  4. Are you a self-starter or do you need a little push? Both. I have my days when I need a little push and others when I wake up energized and ready to rock.
  5. Fun Question of the Week: Why did you decide to start a blog? Accountability, inspiration, and a good place to journal my thoughts and success.
I will do a full update this Friday along with some EXCITING news!

IMG-20110115-00445.jpg
I just really love this picture of me (i can see the weight loss in my face). I had just got home from a wedding (and out of heels YAY!!!).

1. What have you done this past week to help you achieve your goals?
I continued with eating smarter/healthier and drinking water.

2. Do you find that your motivation/mood changes in the winter? If so, what do you do to help/avoid it?
Yes I have with motivation in winter because of the earlier darkness. I try to get it done early.

3. Do you have any advice for your fellow challengers on staying on task/motivated?
Write it down. Your goals, dreams, plans everything!!!

4. What day{s} of the week/month do you find it difficult to stay on task/motivated?
The weekends are hard, they kinda feel like a relaxation from everything including eating healthy and exercise. I need to work on that. And of course TOM during the month is hard.

5. Fun Question of the Week: If you were going on a road trip {longer than a day} who would you take with you? Where would you go?
I would take my cousin Melissa and we would go to the beach.

Winter Wonderland Warriors Challenge Week 2

Life's Journey with a Smile

San Antonio-20110105-00371.jpg
My baby boy and I having a moment!

       1. What have you done this past week to help you achieve your goals? I have drank more water this week and made healthier eating choices.
       2. Are any of your goals repeat offenders (i.e., have you made them before and not succeeded)? If so, what do you intend on doing this time to ensure you achieve them? Yes. Losing weight and saving money are both repeat offenders. Since we are on a spending fast it should be much easier to save money. I intend to plan 5K's and try new forms of exercises to keep myself on track with losing weight.
       3. Do you have a support system in place to help you achieve your goals? Yes I do. My family has all started to make healthier choices.
       4. Are you a planner when it comes to meeting your goals, or do you tend to “wing it” and hope for the best? Very much a planner.
       5. Fun Question of the Week: Who knows about your blog? Are you on blogger lockdown or do the “real” people in your life know about your blog/read your blog? My family knows. My momma is even a follower.

Week 2 failed on exercise. I only made it to the gym twice this week, Monday and Tuesday. I have been doing very good on water intake and choosing my foods more wisely.

Winter Wonderland Week #1

Life's Journey with a Smile

Positive Picture:
Yes that is my face over Kelly Osbourne's on Shape December cover.

Question #1: What are your ten goals for WWW Challenge?
1. Run 5K on February 12th as planned.
2. Lose 30lbs.
3. Stop all UN-necessary spending starting Jan 3rd. (aka spending fast)
4. Continue spending fas for a ONE full year.
5. Save $250 by end of challenge.
6. Pay down debt. (find a job)
7. STOP drinking ALL caffeinated beverages.
8. Use Bikram Yoga Groupon by March 10th.(thats when it expires)
9. Learn to cook vegetables more ways.
10. Workout consecutively for 6 days. (have not done this since highschool 5.5 years ago)

Question #2: Why did you choose them?
I chose the weight loss and exercise goals to keep myself motivated to get healthy before I end up with diabetes or some other major health problem.
I chose the money ones because we have been struggling to save and pay down debt for a few years.
The Bikram yoga one is because I purchased the 10 class groupon almost a year ago. And I really want to try it. I have heard its amazing.
The caffeinated beverages is because I have been trying to get away from Dr. Pepper for years.

Question #3: Are you making a New Year's Resolution beyond the WWW challenge?
Yes. Our spending fast is intended for the entire year. My weight loss goals and exercise goals are a constant life change for me.

Question #4: What does this challenge mean to you?
Accountability. Support. Fun. Encouragement.

Question #5: What did you do when the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve?
Watched my neighbors set off fireworks illegally out my window. lol it was pretty cool.

This seems like a such an awesome challenge so far!! Looking forward to the coming weeks!
YAY!!!
