Where am I???

Where am I these days?
That is a very good question. I have been busy finishing up the semester for school, dealing with finals, annoying teachers and planning Christmas.
We have also been trying to change our living situation over the past couple of months. It's all for the better and when the time is right I will give all the details. It has been a lot of paper work and a lot of waiting waiting waiting waiting. We should know before Christmas and at the latest by the end of the month.
With the busy-ness of this month we have been eating out a lot which is not only un-healthy it is also expensive. I find myself actually craving home cooked healthy food.
I am excited for the holidays, I am also excited for the holidays to be over.
I am excited for everything that is happening around here!

Earthlings

I just finished watching this documentary. It is life changing and it really does make Food, Inc. look like a Disney movie. If you have not seen or heard about it be WARNED it is very graphic in nature. The nickname for Earthlings is "the Vegan Maker".
Where has the idea of being humane toward animals gone?

Struggling

Hello my name is Rusti and I have been struggling!

Why is that something that has been so hard for me to admit? I have been struggling in all aspects of my life recently, the past couple of months have been getting worse. My struggling started with my healthy living plan and has slowly trickled into every single aspect of life, school, parenting, marriage, friendships. I have slowly become something that I have never been: reclusive and introverted. Those two words have never, NEVER, described me before. I used to be energetic, outgoing and confident in myself. I want to be that again. Being that way had nothing to do with size or weight, I was those things at my heaviest weight and biggest size. However, maybe hitting my "i'll never be that weight again" again has caused a downward spiral that I can't control. I really need to get a handle on it because it is beginning to affect relationships and even my parenting in a negative way.
I don't want to sit here and type away some false promises about how I'll be better so I will be journal-ing my thoughts and what action I want to take on paper over the next couple of weeks and sharing them with you all here. I remember sitting here last November after Tricia ran the Rock n Roll Full here in San Antonio and wanting to be able to run the half this year and meet her. Now that race is on the 13 which is this Saturday and I won't be there to run any part of it or to meet Tricia, who in my opinion, is one of the most inspirational people I know here in blog land. I am very grateful to have the people in my life that support me and believe in me. I am thankful for those like Tricia, Mary and Allan and so many others that have gone before me to show me that it is attainable if I just put my mind to it and get it done.
Thank you so much for reading and sticking with me through my somewhat involuntary hiatus.
I will hopefully be post my journals on a bi weekly basis at a minimum.

Weekend Away!!!

Hello All,
This weekend my little family is taking off on a short road trip to see my Daddy. I will be offline for two glorious days. I have been longing for a trip somewhere that is technology free since about 3 weeks after we came back from the beach in July. I am looking forward to this weekend for numerous reasons.
I have packed up workout clothes, my ipod, and have every intention of taking advantage of the peaceful hill country scenery by taking walks/runs(more walking than running) as much as possible. We will only be there Friday evening, Saturday and early Sunday morning. We will be heading home about 930 on Sunday morning to make it to the second service at church. I am hoping to get a walk/run in on Friday evening and at least one on Saturday. I am also excited for this weekend because I will be taking some time to work on homework and studying without having to watch my son at the same time. My hubby has promised to take over the child for an amount of time (hopefully about 2 to 3 hours at a minimum) for me to work on my English paper that is essentially due next Tuesday(peer review) and is due to the teacher on Thursday.
In general I'm just excited to see my Daddy and Betty since we haven't been to see them since June!!! Almost 4 months since we've seen each other. They are ecstatic and they were talking about all the food they want to make for us :( I am packing breakfast foods, snacks and some light lunch fare. I am not going to be completely rude by not eating any of the meals they cook. I will however be very careful about how much. I am taking fruits, yogurt, rice cakes, reduced fat peanut butter and corn flakes. I am hoping to fill up on my healthy stuff so that when dinner time comes around I won't be that hungry thus justifying a small meal. I am weighing in with Allan and the TDDChallenge tomorrow seeing as how I will not only be technology free but also scale free on Sunday. I have also packed my journal so that when I return on Sunday I can input my food and activity on myfitnesspal. I also plan to reflect and write down my thoughts and reasons and what I want out of weight loss and healthy living. I hope to come back refreshed, re-focused and with plenty of blog material!
I'll see ya'll Sunday!!!
xoxo

I'm okay with it. I know I wasn't completely on plan and did not start exercising last week. On to a new week.

The Triple Dog Dare Challenge!

Hello everybody,
I joined the Triple Dog Dare Challenge hosted by Allan. I've stumbled around getting on plan these first 3 days. The most difficult part has been getting in the fluids. I am supposed to drink 118 ounces of fluids a day. The challenge does not specify water however, I am for at least half of that to be water. I also now know that when we get the next menu I will be grocery shopping from that menu for everybody in the house, not just myself.
This week we had already been to the store for the regular shopping trip and then after I received the menu for me I went back and spent another $100 on stuff just for the challenge. Hopefully, the budget for groceries will be balanced by purchasing less of everything else and everyone will get healthier by eating on plan.
I am beginning to get my "sea legs" so to speak. I just need to get moving with the exercise part of the challenge now.

Fire Up For Fall Week 1!

1. What are your goals for the Fall Challenge? (List your 5 or more goals)
  1. Workout 4 times a week.
2. Journal food, workouts and weigh ins. Weigh ins will be once a week.
3. Stay on course with our budget.
4. Cash ONLY!
5. Become an ex soda drinker.
2. Why have you chosen those goals?
I have chose these goals because I need to get back to working out and journal-ing my food. My husband and I have been doing relatively well sticking to our budget and using cash only, we just need to continue doing so. Number 5 is about becoming un-addicted to caffeine and sugar, specifically in soda form. When I was pregnant with our son I wrote down everything I ate and kept a log of my glucose levels while I had gestational diabetes. It kept me accountable to the diet that was prescribed and kept me from gaining to much weight.
 3. What have you done this week that's made you feel fabulous? {this will be
  asked weekly so make sure you do something!!}
Started reading The Help and made a 90 on my math test at school.
4. What do you think will be your biggest challenge in reaching your goals?
Finding my motivation to work out and log everything.
5. Fun Question! Where in  the World do you live? What's amazing about it?
I live in San Antonio, Texas. I think the diversity and culture is amazing.

Money where my mouth is...

Hello all,
So, I have been thinking recently...
I really love this blog world. I really want to get something out of it other than just writing about my frustrations over not losing any weight. How can I expect to lose weight when I haven't put in any of the work in to yield a loss. And also how can I sit here at my laptop and complain and whine about it when I am the problem in the equation. And also when I could be outside being active or taking my son to the park so he can be active. I have no excuses! I just need to quit being lazy!
I have decided to put my money where my mouth is.
I want to be under 200lbs by Christmas and I am going to do whatever it takes to get there.
I want to be active for at least 30 minutes a day. I know it should be more than that and I will work up to that. I will start with walking in the mornings. Not just a leisure walk either, a brisk pace. I will be wearing a pedometer. I wore it today at school and I only walked 1.21 miles. I know my two school days a week are my "active" days. 1.21 miles in a day is just disappointing. I thought I would have been getting at least two miles in on school days. I know I am probably not even getting a full mile on the other days of the week. Also, the NO soda September is starting now for me. I am hoping to make the NO soda thing a forever thing. I can learn to like Crystal Light, plain water, I already like milk and orange juice. I just need to replace the soda with mostly WATER.
I am going to start with walking 2 miles a day.
I will build on that every week or so. When I have accomplished this for 2 weeks I will be adding in other forms of exercise. For now I want to keep it simple and this seems simple enough to stick with. Wish me luck,
~RustiAnn

Day 13/30 Days Blogging Challenge

A letter to someone who has hurt you recently:
I won't be putting this online. I will be writing the letter to a friend and shredding it. I haven't been hurt recently (in this year) so whatever I write will be from a previous old event.
I will write on my blog about my problems and issues with losing weight however, I will never air out any dirty laundry about friends or family. It's just not what I do.
Thank you for respecting my wishes,

Day 12/30 Days Blogging Challenge

How you found out about Blogger and why you made one:
I found blogger through searching from Google "weight loss blogs". The first blog I read was Tricia's, Endurance Isn't Only Physical. From there I found more. Eventually I decided that having my own might be an accountability tool.
So far it has kept me somewhat grounded, I have mostly maintained although at one point for about 3 months I was losing. I am hoping to get back into a routine that yields losses!

Labor Day Weekend and New Commitment!

This labor day weekend I am renewing my commitment to live a healthy lifestyle and to lose weight. I need to lose about 150 pounds to be healthy. My first goal may seem somewhat extreme, however, I will have smaller goals to keep me on track.
First Goal: Lose 50 pounds by December 31, 2011
This renewed commitment has all started with the beginning of the No Soda September Challenge. The challenge is being hosted by Mike at Starting At 500 Pounds. I also must admit that all this is also due to Mary at asmallloss and her being back on track! It all inspires me so much! I can't wait to be down 50lbs!!!
My first official day on the no soda's will be September 3rd. I finished off the two Dr. Peppers we had in the fridge on September 1st then, I broke down on the 2nd and purchased one from a machine.
My daily routine will (hopefully) go as follows:
Wake up: 6am
Workout Complete: 6:40am
Shower/Breakfast Complete: 8am
Be at school: 830am
My smaller goals will be in ten pound increments! I am so excited!!!
Thanks for reading,
~RustiAnn

Right classroom...wrong time!

Fall 2011
has started!

I have started classes for Fall. I am taking Math 0303 and English 1302. I am very happy with my English teacher, she is so very sweet. My math teacher is nice however, she teaches SUPER fast!!! I will have to be very disciplined and organized to keep up with her.
So about the title of this, I am so definitely a BLOND;
Tuesday was the first day of class and I made the brilliant decision to NOT print my schedule and just put the room number and class in a memo on my phone. Well, I forgot to put the times in my phone. After traffic and having to walk FOREVER to get to the building I had gone to the right classroom but at the wrong time! I felt so dumb!
Anyway finally made it to math and had a great day!
Realized I will need to take a snack for in between classes, almost fell asleep my first day in English. I also have new goals for this semester, by the end of this Fall semester I want to achieve:
1. take all 3 flights of stairs without being winded
2. not feel like my tummy sits on the desk while I take notes
3. be under 200lbs!
Three simple very achievable goals for this semester!
I am very excited!
Dedication and discipline is my mantra for this semester!

Beat the Heat Summer Challenge Week Eight!

I can't find the button anymore, sorry.
Also, I don't have a camera or a high tech phone so I don't have any to import my pics for the week.

What did you do this week to work towards your goals?
nada...nuttin...zilch...zippo.

What did you do this week to make yourself feel fabulous?
I curled my hair and tried new colors of makeup. I also
plucked my eyebrows and it just made my face look a whole
lot cleaner.

What has been your biggest challenge this week?
Getting moving and being motivated.

Do you need neatness and order to feel good or does a bit of untidiness not bother you?
both...let me explain, in some areas of life, like school and budgets I really need
order and neatness. In other areas, like our "living room" i don't mind it being
untidy because that is where our 2 year old has his toys and play area.

Would you rather be attacked by 20 duck sized horses or 20 horse sized ducks?
20 duck sized horses! they would be really adorable.

Beat the Heat Summer Challenge Week Seven!!!

”Weight

Revised Challenge Goals:
1. Read my Bible in 90 Days.
2. Lose 20 to 30 pounds.
3. Take vitamins daily.
4. Drink at least 100 ounces of water daily.
5. Start Running.
6. Save up a Baby Emergency Fund: $1000.

What have you done to help you achieve your goals?
We went grocery shopping and purchased a bunch of
fresh fruits and salad makings. We have also been
eating all of our meals at home(no money to go out).
It's been interesting coming up with 3 meals a day
And seeing how often we were eating out. It was almost
on a once a day basis at a minimum.

What have you done to make you feel fabulous?
Colored my hair! I have also been thinking of
starting another blog that would focus on
money, budgets and becoming debt free, what do ya'll
think of that?

If your house was on fire, and you could grab ONE thing
(outside of people and your computer/laptop,
they are all out) what would it be?
My file/picture box. It has shot records, birth certificates and
our wedding pictures.

Tell us about your blog. Treat it like a book, what’s happened so far?
Nothing...lol jk. Mostly a girl talks about losing weight and has a few
sucessful small attempts but always ends up back tracking. She really
wants to be sucessful but she must first find the motivation to do so.

Fun Question:  Tell an embarrassing story about yourself. No dodging.
When I was 12 or so I got locked in a bathroom at Taco Bell. It was the
first time I had worn a full face of make up. I freaked out! When they
finally got the door unlocked I had mascara and makeup running all down
my face! Another embarrassing story was in the 7th grade I went from gym
class to home ec and then found out my shirt was inside out and backwards.

I can't believe that this challenge is almost over already. It seems like July flew by! I know I haven't been putting pictures up but we don't have a camera and my phone sucks at taking pics.
Thank you for reading, hope everyone has a great week!

Beat the Heat Summer Challenge Week Six!

Weight Wars

Revised Challenge Goals:
1. Read my Bible in 90 Days.
2. Lose 20 to 30 pounds.
3. Take vitamins daily.
4. Drink at least 100 ounces of water daily.
5. Start Running.
6. Save up a Baby Emergency Fund: $1000.

1.       What have you done this week to help you achieve your goals?
Took my vitamins 2/7 days. I consumed at least 30 ounces of water a day, it's not 100 but it's a start. As far as starting running goes...if I could find a pair of shoes that fit my feet I would have started this week. I am having to return a 3rd pair of shoes because they are not wide enough for my chunky monkey feet. Any suggestions on shoes for double wide feet??? The baby emergency fund is slowly starting to build up however we will be using some of it to pay for my tuition for Fall.

2.       What have you done this week to make you feel fabulous?
Deep hair conditioning treatment...ooo la la soft hair! I also bought new mascara and eye shadows.

3.       Do you feel you get everything out of your life? Would you like to change things or are you happy where you are (I know a bit deep but I’m thinking about major life achievements this week achieved and not!)
I am getting everything out of life that I can right now. I am actively pursuing my education, married(awesome hubby) and have an amazing son who starts Day School on September 6th.

4.       What’s your ultimate favourite food? Is it healthy? Can you make it healthy?
My favorite healthy food is STRAWBERRIES. Not healthy food is mac and cheese.

5.       Fun Question: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Personal trainer. I also have a passion to help people get out of debt.

Beat the Heat Summer Challenge Week Five!

Weight Wars

Original Challenge Goals:
1. Read my Bible in 90 Days.
2. Lose 30 to 50 pounds.
3. Take vitamins daily.
4. Drink at least 100 ounces of water daily.
5. Start training for a Half Marathon.
6a. Save up a Baby Emergency Fund: $1000.
6b. Pay off Debt.

1.       What have you done this week to work towards your goals?
I ordered a pair of shoes that I know will finally fit me so I can get started on G2. I am doing ok on my water consumption, I need to drink more still though. G5 will start happening once I get my shoes. Saving money is going ok, I'm not sure if we will hit $1K by the end of the challenge but we will see.
2.       What have you done to make yourself feel fabulous?
I spent the day with a good friend. We went to the nail salon had our nails done and had pedicures. My feat and toenails thank me so much! We also spent some time at the mall and at walmart. It was a much needed break from our kiddos.
3.       How are you finding your goals this challenge? Do you still think you can achieve them?
I am finding my goals to be difficult this challenge. I am not sure that I will achieve them to exactly what I have said my goals are but we will see.
4.       Freebie! If you want to change one goal change it. Explain your decision even if you don’t change any.
I am changing G2 to Lose 20 to 30lbs. I am changing G5 to Start Running. I am also dropping G6B, I just don't think there is enough time left in the challenge to accomplish saving $1K and paying debt.  I am changing G2 because of the amount of time left in the challenge I know I probably won't be able to lose more than 30lbs in that amount of time. I also have changed G5 because I want to just start Running I don't want to pressure my self into a half marathon before I'm ready.
5.       Fun Question: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Your funds are unlimited!
I don't have a specific place however, I can describe it. Snows in the winter, close to the beach in the summer and hopefully never breaks 100 degrees in the summer.
p.s. sorry there is no picture again this week. hopefully next week.
